About the book:

In October 1968, author Bill Goshen decided to drop out of college and answer his country's call to arms. Typical of many young American men at the time, Goshen enlisted rather than waited for the draft to seek him out. Injured during airborne training, he could have avoided the war zone altogether and remained in the states for the balance of his enlistment. Instead, he volunteered for the division's long range patrol element--Company F, 52nd Infantry.
This young soldier saw nonstop action during his stint in the LRRPs, which is lasted just under six months. His final patrol--described here with jarring clarity and detail that puts you in the hot spot with him--is testimony to his strong will to survive and unfailing dedication to his team. His last mission is a tragic tale of death and destruction--a patrol gone bad. His subsequent rescue, and long recovery from his terrible wounds, will break your heart, and make you proud to be an American.
War Paint is a thrilling journey into the world of a true American warrior: a seemingly average man who accomplishes remarkable feats on the battlefield. Goshen's personal story of America, whose young men selflessly heed the call to arms--generation after generation. Too often the Vietnam soldier is lost in the equation. War Paint begins to rectify this.
